The Baron de Ley Rioja Finca Monasterio DOC 2022 is a characterful Spanish red wine from the famous Rioja DOCa region and is one of the prestigious wines produced by the renowned Baron de Ley winery. This wine is predominantly made from the Tempranillo grape variety, complemented by small proportions of Graciano, which lend it additional spice and structure. The grapes come from the single vineyard ‘Finca Monasterio’, which is characterised by limestone and clay-rich soils and optimal sunshine.


Following careful hand-harvesting, fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. The Baron de Ley Finca Monasterio 2022 is then aged for around 18 months in new French oak barriques before undergoing further bottle ageing. This traditional yet modern ageing process lends it power, elegance and remarkable depth. The 2022 vintage is considered expressive and well-balanced, shaped by perfect weather conditions that produced ripe and aromatic grapes. As such, this wine presents itself as an impressive fusion of Rioja tradition and contemporary style.

Tasting Note

In the glass, the Finca Monasterio 2022 displays an intense ruby red colour with purple highlights. On the nose, it reveals complex aromas of dark cherries, blackberries and plums, accompanied by subtle toasted notes, cedar, vanilla and a hint of chocolate. On the palate, it is powerful and velvety, with ripe tannins, well-integrated acidity and a long, elegant finish characterised by fruity and spicy nuances.

This characterful Rioja Reserva pairs superbly with hearty meat dishes such as leg of lamb, roast beef, game or grilled steak. It also comes into its own with mature Manchego, blue cheese or Mediterranean stews. Served at 16–18 °C, the Baron de Ley Finca Monasterio reveals its full range of aromas and is perfect for festive dinners, special occasions or as the highlight of a discerning wine tasting.
